Bankers and Churchill Lamps in Brass
A familiar lamp, with more than one expression
A green glass shade above a brass base gives the banker's lamp its immediately recognisable character. In our collection, that familiar combination sits alongside white glass, cylindrical brass shades and structures that range from slender stems to decorated columns. We make these lamps in Italy, bringing our brass expertise to both the quieter designs and the more elaborate versions.
The selection includes compact single-shade lamps and broader double lamps, rounded bases and geometric ones, curved arms and articulated structures. These differences give the Churchill lamp a place within several interior styles: a simple version can accompany contemporary furniture, while fluting, stepped forms and ornament connect others with our Art Deco and Art Nouveau lighting.
Fixed forms and articulated arms
The position of the joints matters as much as their number. Some lamps keep a fixed relationship between stem and shade; others allow the shade to tilt, or use joints lower in the structure to change the arm's position as well. For a desk used for different activities, those movements can help bring the lamp closer to the working area without relocating its base.
A fixed curved arm offers a different proposition: its form stays consistent when the lamp becomes part of a permanent arrangement on a cabinet or beside a chair. Our collection includes both approaches, together with sliding-arm designs and double-shade versions. Choose the movement you actually need, then consider the lamp's proportions in its intended position.
Green glass, white glass and brass shades
The shade sets the relationship between the lamp and the surrounding materials. Our range offers three distinct directions:
- Green glass brings the characteristic colour of the banker's lamp into the room, creating a deliberate accent beside pale stone, timber or neutral upholstery.
- White glass keeps the familiar arrangement of shade and brass support with a quieter colour contrast, useful where the room already contains strong colours or patterns.
- Brass shades continue the metal through the upper part of the lamp. Plain or fluted cylindrical designs give the selection a more mechanical or decorative expression, depending on their construction.
From the desk to the living room
A banker's lamp can also belong on a side cabinet in a living room. On a marble surface, its coloured glass and smaller metal details provide a counterpoint to the stone's broad veining. A compact version keeps that accent contained; a double lamp makes a wider, more symmetrical arrangement. This is a choice about the composition of the room as well as the lamp's traditional association with a desk.
Polished, antique and satin bronze brass finishes offer further ways to relate the lamp to nearby materials, with 24-karat gold-plated options on selected models. Our finishes guide explains their appearance and care. For other proportions and shade types, explore the wider table lamp collection.
