Ceiling lights for covered entrances and walkways

A ceiling light is a useful choice beneath a porch roof or along a covered passage, especially where a hanging fitting would take up too much headroom. The models in this collection have a fixed ceiling mount rather than a chain, keeping the fitting higher in the space while retaining the character of a decorative lamp.

At a small entrance, consider the position of the door and the route beneath the light. Along a veranda, repeating a fitting can follow the line of the covered walkway. Over a terrace dining table, an outdoor pendant light may be preferable if you want the lamp to sit lower and make the table the focus.

Broad shades or a slender lantern

Rounded and conical brass shades give more prominence to the metalwork, with the glass tucked beneath them. The narrow cage design leaves more of the clear glass visible and brings an industrial or nautical note to the setting. A broad shade can balance a generous porch; a slender lantern offers a less expansive outline.

Width alone does not tell you how much room a fitting needs. The narrower lantern is taller than the broad rounded shade, so compare the total height as well as the diameter, particularly above a passage or near an opening door.

Italian craft and the character of brass

Completing the lighting scheme

These fittings use a replaceable E27 LED bulb, supplied separately. With clear glass, the bulb can remain visible, so its appearance matters as well as brightness and colour temperature. Choose a compatible bulb within the model’s stated limits.

If the project extends to the façade, outdoor wall lights offer a way to carry the chosen finish onto the walls.
