Table Lamps in Brass
Table Lamps in Brass
Italian brass table lamps for desks, bedsides and living rooms
In our collection, brass can be the slender framework of an articulated desk lamp or the sculptural centre of a decorative light. Floral glass, pierced ceramic and fabric shades sit alongside green library shades, globes and pared-back metal designs. Made in Italy by Ghidini 1849, this range brings together lamps for close, everyday use and pieces in which the base, stem and shade develop a more elaborate decorative theme.
That breadth makes the shade and the structure useful starting points. A lamp beside an armchair, one on a bedside cabinet and one used at a desk may share a material, yet call for different ways of positioning and screening the light.
The shade and its opening
A shade's material changes how light leaves the lamp. Translucent glass or fabric allows light through its surface as well as its openings; an opaque metal shade confines the light to the open areas. Pierced ceramic introduces another relationship, with small openings within an otherwise opaque surface. The shape, material and bulb therefore deserve to be considered together, rather than judging the light from the colour of the brass alone.
Our selection includes frosted floral bells, white glass globes, textile cylinders and pleated shades. A white glass globe can glow across its visible surface; a downward-facing opaque shade leaves its opening to illuminate the tabletop. For reading or desk work, consider where the opening and light source will sit from your seated position. A decorative shade and a useful adjustment can belong to the same lamp.
What does an adjustable lamp actually move?
The mechanisms across the collection offer different kinds of movement. Tilting a shade changes its angle; moving an articulated arm changes where the shade sits; a sliding assembly also changes its height on the stem. These differences matter when the same surface is used for writing, reading and other activities.
- A tilting shade lets you alter the direction without moving the base.
- An articulated or sliding arm lets you reposition the shade relative to the tabletop, within the movement provided by that model.
- A fixed structure calls for choosing the lamp and its position together, especially on a narrow bedside cabinet.

Floral detail, sculptural brass and quieter forms
Within our Art Deco and Art Nouveau selection, decoration often continues through several parts of the lamp: a leaf-patterned base, a botanical stem or a figure supporting the shade. Giving these details space on a plain cabinet allows the whole design to be appreciated; in a more richly furnished room, it is worth choosing which patterns and materials will recur.
Our contemporary lamps take the selection towards discs, cylinders and simpler stems, while rustic and industrial designs give greater emphasis to domed shades, visible joints and substantial brass forms. A classic table lamp can also sit comfortably with contemporary furniture: the relationship between its detail and the surrounding materials matters more than matching every object to one period.
A place for the lamp, and for everything beside it
On a bedside cabinet or side table, the shade may extend well beyond the base. Allow for that reach as well as space for a book, a glass and the switch or cable. On a console, a taller or more sculptural design can be given a clearer setting, with the cable routed naturally behind the furniture. Compare the available finishes in the chosen model with nearby timber, stone and metal: their reflections and colour contribute to the composition, while the shade and source determine how the lamp gives light.
