Brass Floor Lamps
Brass floor lamps with different ways of bringing light closer
In our collection, a pleated fabric shade on a slender articulated arm sits alongside opal-glass globes, curved metal shades and ceramic forms. We make these lamps in Italy, drawing on our experience with brass to offer both finely detailed classic designs and simpler contemporary structures. The choice extends beyond style: the relationship between the base, arm and shade determines where the lamp can stand and how its light can be positioned beside a seat.
What moves when you adjust a floor lamp?
Moving the shade and tilting it solve different problems. A swing arm can bring the shade over the side of a sofa while the base stays farther back. Other articulated structures change the arm's inclination; sliding mechanisms alter its position on the stem. With a fixed globe or shade, the base position and light-source position stay tied to one another. Its overall reach therefore matters particularly beside a deep armchair.
These alternatives matter in a reading corner. A lamp may fit neatly beside a chair yet leave the shade too far from the seat, or require more room for its arm than its base suggests. Consider the lamp in its working position, including the arm's reach and the space around the furniture. Our range includes several approaches to adjustment, so the movement can be chosen as carefully as the shade.
Fabric, glass, ceramic and metal
The upper part of the lamp changes both its appearance and the relationship with the light source. Within our selection:
- Fabric shades include pleated ivory designs and blue-shade compositions, giving classic brass structures a close connection with upholstery and textiles.
- Opal-glass globes and white-glass shades offer rounded, continuous surfaces, with the supporting metal left more exposed around them.
- Ceramic and metal shades bring a more defined edge and an open underside, appearing on both rustic and more restrained designs.
For a reading position, the shade's opening and the bulb's position deserve attention together: they affect where light falls and whether the source is directly visible from the chair. The shade material alone does not make that decision.
Classic detail in a contemporary room
Our selection ranges from decorated stems and floral details associated with Art Deco and Art Nouveau lighting to exposed joints, simple globes and slender contemporary forms. A classic floor lamp can sit comfortably beside a plain sofa and an unadorned wall, where its smaller brass details have room to be appreciated. More elaborate interiors may call for a quieter structure, rather than another layer of ornament.
Polished, antique and satin bronze finishes provide further choices across the range. A polished surface catches sharper reflections; a satin surface makes them less pronounced. Choose the available finish for the particular model in relation to nearby timber, stone and metalwork. Our finishes guide explains the individual surfaces and their care.
